Johan Van Mullem is a Belgian painter based in Brussels. His luminous, smooth, brilliant portraits and landscapes are painted with oil-based inks. Influenced by the works of William Blake, Francisco Goya, Rembrandt and Francis Bacon, Van Mullem is not confined by the canons and monuments of art history, preferring to concentrate on artistic technique and the transmission of emotion.
His work is shown in numerous galleries around the world, and was recently the subject of a solo exhibition at the Musée Royal des Beaux-Arts in Brussels.
