ROGER-EDGAR GILLET (1924-2004)

Roger-Edgar Gillet (1924-2004) was a French painter and engraver. Initially an abstract painter, he took part in several exhibitions organized by Michel Tapié and Charles Estienne, alongside Mathieu, Alechinsky, Messagier, Poliakoff, Riopelle, Fautrier, Hartung and Zao Wou-KI. He became associated with European lyrical abstraction, or the New School of Paris. In 1964, marking his detachment from abstraction, he joined the Ariel gallery alongside Doucet, Marfaing, Maryan, Rebeyrolle, etc.

His work, figurative from the 1960s onwards, may be associated with New Figuration and Expressionism.
