Anton Martineau (1926-2017) is a Dutch artist (painter, draughtsman, sculptor, engraver) and poet from Amsterdam. Close to CoBrA, a friend of Lucebert and an associate of the Vijftigers group, Anton Martineau always refused to belong to any particular movement. He remained a unique voice on the Dutch contemporary art scene.
His rich, lively expressionist painting, with subjects such as portraits, still lifes and erotic scenes, deals with many facets of humanity in an intuitive, distorted way, often using the absurd to highlight a moment, an expression or a feeling.
