Monotyping
I discovered monotyping by watching a documentary on Degas in 2008. I realised that monotyping was a technique which only needed a little ink, basic tools and a surface to hold the work of art, contrary to engraving, which needs a press and more sophisticated tools.
The first trials were carried out using what I had at hand, using the reverse side of analog photographs – which are smooth and non-porous – and a few brushes to apply the paint. Because of my oil painting background, I hesitated for a long time before I finally decided to use this technique in my works. After several tests in black and white, I eventually found a technique which suited me… and I started to create coloured monotypes in 2011. Today, my focus is on how to keep the intensity of this technique on large surfaces.
